Step into the imaginative world of Peter Loukas, the Staten Island, New York based artist and designer who turns the ordinary into extraordinary miniature masterpieces. From a young age, Peter’s creative spirit was fostered in the “forgotten borough” of Staten Island. His passion for model making was ignited when his mother crafted dioramas for his Star Wars figurines.
Peter’s artistic journey took him from the vibrant streets of NYC, where he was inspired by the Keith Haring Mural, to the Fashion Institute of Technology, where he honed his skills in graphic arts and earned a BFA. His early career saw him working in local print shops and various print companies, mastering the complexities of typography and color separations. His true calling came when he found his niche designing graphics for apparel at his present company. He was also inspired by the expressive street art and culture of the ’80s. Peter drew inspiration from the world of t-shirt design and club flyer creation and created art for SONY, Marvel, CBS, Live Nation, and various private label designers.
For the past 15 years, Peter has dedicated himself to the craft of creating miniatures. He started with HO scale models and evolved into a self-taught mastery of realistic weathering, building techniques, and material use. His process involves photographing every detail, building precise line drawings, and painstakingly assembling and weathering each piece to achieve an ultra-realistic miniature sculpture. Peter’s work is a study of the beauty of decay, capturing the corrosion of metal, the wear on garbage cans, the effects of acid rain, and the patina of time on urban environments.
